Only the Best for Ash

Only the Best for Ash

Nothing but the best will do forAishwarya Rai Bachchan. The lady has a certain aura and it has most people treating her like royalty. Even her directors are willing to bend backwards to accommodate her. Filmmaker Vipul Shah who is directing the lady in 'Action Replay' is an example of that.

According to sources, the director wanted his leading lady styled by the best so he turned to Hollywood to fulfil his desire. Shah zeroed in on Hollywood stylist and make up artist Paul Pattison to work on Ash's look for the movie. For those not in the know, the stylist has worked on Hollywood biggies like 'Braveheart', 'Mission Impossible' and stars like Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson. But the toughest thing was to synchronise the dates of Ash and Pattison, both of who are extremely busy. Ash is currently in town but very soon she will be immersed in the shooting of Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan'. It took a lot of doing but Shah managed somehow to set things up so that Pattison can fly down to Mumbai and do a session with Ash and the 'Action Replay' hero, Akshay Kumar. It seems that Pattison was tied up when Ash was free and so Shah had to actually request his Hollywood producers to release him for a few days. If he had not been able to arrange a meeting with Ash, he would have had to schedule it later and that would only have further delayed his movie.

First there was uproar about Saif Ali Khan's beard in 'Love Aaj Kal' and now there seems to be a minor furore overRani Mukherjee's patka in the forthcoming film, 'Dil Bole Hadippa'. It seems that our Hindi filmmakers have been rubbing the Sikhs the wrong way.

Just before the release of Imtiaz Ali's 'Love Aaj Kal', the community expressed its outrage at Saif's beard. The recent uproar seems to be over the fact that Rani is seen wearing a patka, which according to a section of the community is not fitting for an adult. According to their understanding, Rani should be wearing a turban and not the patka. In fact, members of the Punkabi Cultural and Heritage Board have even met Yash Chopra and expressed their concern. Apparently, their views are being considered by the production house. The board members have also objected to the use of the patka instead of the dot over the 'I' in the film's title on posters. The film's posters are likely to be changed and the production house has even promised to arrange a special screening for board members. Beside Rani, 'Dil Bole Hadippa' also stars Shahid Kapoor.

Kulraj to Play Rishi Kapoor's PRO in 'Chintuji'

Rishi Kapoor has a new PRO and she is none other than Kulraj Randhawa. Though it is in reel life that Kulraj got an opportunity to play Rishi Kapoor's PRO, it was a learning experience for her all throughout the movie 'Chintuji'. Kulraj who initially had apprehensions about Rishi Kapoor's starry tantrums as warned by industrywallahs realized that he is the most chilled out actor especially with newcomers and Rishi Kapoor does not compromise where work is concerned, he gives his 110% and expects others to do the same. As for Kulraj, it was easy for her to prepare for the role as she has herself freelanced as a journalist in Bangalore during her college days, other than that she has spent some time in the industry already and had an opportunity to interact with some PRs so it was not difficult to imbibe some mannerisms into her character.

"Basic observation with everyday PRs helped me get my act right, besides my character in the film is also writing a book on Rishi Kapoor, so it is a natural performance I would say" gushes a chirpy Kulraj.Kulraj to play Rishi kapoor's PRO in 'Chintuji'

Asin, who is quite ecstatic about her next release 'London Dreams' oppositeSalman Khan and Ajay Devgan isn't happy with the fact that she has just a blink and miss appearance in the first theatrical release of the film. This will be her first release after her super successful 'Ghajini' last year and she was keen to know her fan's reaction and curiosity about 'London Dreams', but she has been given a skip in the promos. 'London Dreams' is a story about two friends hence Vipul Shah chose to keep the promos revolving around Salman and Ajay and denied the rumour that Asin has been sidelined and is not an important part of the movie. Nevertheless, Asin is not convinced and still miffed with Vipul for limiting her dreams.

Why Akshay wanted to party with SRK?

When Akshay Kumar decided to throw his first party in Bollywood to celebrate the opening collections of hisKambakkht Ishq, he made it a point to invite Shah Rukh Khan even though the superstar was far away in San Francisco.

"Yes, I did call Shah Rukh Khan to invite him. When Kareena and I suddenly decided to have a party, we decided we'd invite the entire industry. This wasn't a party to celebrate our success alone. It was also a party to celebrate the success of New York as much as my own film. So, apart from me and Kareena, the party's unofficial hosts were Katrina (Kaif), John (Abraham) and the entire New York team," said Akshay.

Akshay has often accused members of the film industry of trying to sabotage his films but he still wanted everyone to come together for the success of two films following a slump.

"I want them to celebrate any success and not be happy when films fail. WhenNew York was released, SMS messages against the film were sent out. The same thing is happening with my film. Why be negative? Specially when I've always been happy for all my colleagues' successes?" Akshay asked.

"So yes, I personally called up Shah Rukh and all my colleagues for the party. But he's shooting in San Francisco...There will be plenty more occasions, I'm sure," the actor said.

The party hosted at the Marriott Hotel Monday night was Akshay's first ever.

"I completely shy away from parties. But this time I think we all needed to express solidarity and happiness over the end of the prolonged slump," he said.

The impromptu party was Kareena's idea. "We quickly drew up a list. She invited her friends. I invited mine. Then we began making the calls. Then there was Tina (wife Twinkle) who called her friends. That just about covered the whole industry," Akshay added.

And how was the party?

"No drinking for me. But a lot of dancing. It was a lot of fun," the star said

Will Akshay give up action, comedy films?

He has done loads of action films and made audiences laugh in rib-tickling comedies, but Bollywood star Akshay Kumar now says he's bored and wants some romance...on screen of course!

"I want to do more romance. I've actually gotten bored of comedy and action. Yes, I just want to do some romantic films. And that's what my next thing is going to be," Akshay said.

While his fans enjoyed actioners likeKhiladi, Mohra and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Akshay also drew audiences for laugh riots Hera Pheri, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng among others.

"...I've done quite a lot of comedy now and I don't know...sometimes an actor is very sensitive about what he's doing and where he wants to go ahead and do. I know comedy has worked a lot and it has worked brilliantly for me.

"Earlier, when I used to do action I would never think about comedy and then I started getting into it and I was quite successful. So now I've never done a complete romantic film. I did Dhadkan, which was eight years back. But now I wanna get into it and do at least two or three romantic films now," said the actor, who entered Bollywood in 1991.

One of the highest earning members of the Hindi film industry, Akshay maintains that there is no sure-shot secret to success, but stressed that hard work and being "a producer's actor" is essential.

"It's actually your hard work, your punctuality...Even if you're not a good actor, to be a producer's actor is very essential...If you finish your films on time, save a lot of money for the producer. I remember there was a time when I had delivered 14 flops in a row. But I still had movies along with me for a very simple reason, because I was a producer's actor."

"I had good films still coming... I had finished all films in a three-month span. Even if they went for loss, they still preferred working with me. And after that, even I thought my career was over. But it still carried on," Akshay added.

And luck, he said, is of supreme importance for remaining on top.

"I've just been lucky... a lot of times I've watched my films and I felt it's not good. And those films worked. Like I tell you another film of mine was 8x10 Tasveer. I love that film... When I saw it, it's good but it didn't work at all. So I don't know exactly what works and what doesn't work. You just flow. I liked Chandni Chowk To China. I did it with Warner Brothers, I was very confident and it didn't work at all."

So why didn't it work?

"I think it was the storyline. Like Kambakkht Ishq was another film where that combination got together (Bollywood and Hollywood); so that worked. But this one didn't. So it's not the combination, it's actually the script - and sometimes the script doesn't work."

The actor also firmly believes that the blessings of his parents too go a long way in making him the star he is today.

"I would say my success lies at the feet of my parents because that's been my biggest strength and that's what we Hindus believe in. Every morning before going to work just touch your parents' feet and go ahead in life. That's my personal belief and I followed that in my life. And I told a lot of people and they have also been successful. People may believe it or not, but that's exactly what I believe in," Akshay said.

3 Idiots will release on Christmas: Aamir

Aamir Khan, who is spending time with wife Kiran Rao after her miscarriage last month, says his much-awaited 3 Idiots will hit the screens in December.

"Vinod (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and Raju (Raj Kumar Hirani) tell me that the post production on 3 Idiots is progressing well - so by the time I get back, the cut (final product) will be ready. Which means I can confirm to all those of you who have been repeatedly asking... yes, 3 Idiots will be releasing on Christmas this year. I'll see the cut once I get back," Aamir wrote on his blog.

He didn't reveal his whereabouts, but informed: "Kiran and I are away from home, in one very quiet spot, just lying in and resting. Reading, going for walks, watching films."

The actor says he is utilising his time to catch up on a few films and books - something that he hasn't been able to do thanks to his chock-a-block schedules.

"There are so many films to see, and books to read. One life time is not enough. Books, I read, but films I never get down to seeing.

"Strange, since, I love cinema so much. It's not as if I don't enjoying watching films. I really do, in fact when I watch a film I forget to blink and my eyes start hurting after a while. But for someone who is so steeped in films I have watched pathetically few films in all these years," he said.

Aamir is glad that he has finally managed to watch 1994 American film The Shawshank Redemption, which was recommended to him by many.

"Just saw The Shawshank Redemption. Had heard so much about this film. It seems to be on a lot of must see' lists. Really enjoyed it," he added.

I was inadequate for politics: Big B

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was an MP for a brief period in the 1980s, says he discontinued his association with politics because he felt he was "inadequate for the job".

"Many ask me why I joined politics and then why I left it. I joined it because I was asked to and left because I was inadequate for the job," Bachchan posted on his blog.

The sexagenarian came into politics at the behest of good friend and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. He contested the Lok Sabha election from his native Allahabad in 1984. Though he won by a huge majority, Bachchan failed to make his mark as a politician.

He says it's a tough job to be a politician and admires those who have managed to stay put in it.

"Politics is a complicated world - a world where if you are unable to play the game, you would remain a novice and a stranger eternally. I admire those who have remained in it for long years. Admire the guile with which they steer their boats everyday, every minute. The ease with which they make associations and break them, reject foes and months later embrace them as dearest friends. It is a tough job.

"A job that I would never be able to do. I would never recommend it to anyone. But I do know that those that pursue this line, do so with utmost dedication and passion. Their dedication and passion is admirable," he said.

Bachchan is currently in Singapore with his politician friend Amar Singh. The Samajwadi Party leader had undergone a kidney transplant there recently.

Farah wants to bring SRK, Salman closer

Farah Khan, who is a common friend of Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, wants to play the peacemaker between the two actors.

The choreographer-turned-director, believes that the fight between the actors is getting longer.

"I wish I could bridge the gap. I love both of them. It's (the fight) getting longer now," Farah said.

Farah, who has turned a chat-show host with Tere Mere Beach Mein had Salman Khan and his mother as her first celebrity guests while she is planning to bring Shah Rukh in the final episode.

"Since Salman had never come on a chat show before and was very candid during the show, we made him the first guest.

But Shahrukh will be the last one to keep the audience hooked till the end," she says.

Akshay Kumar completes 12-year-old film

A 12-year-old film finally got completed this week, thanks to its leading man Akshay Kumar's determination not to have a single film in the cans.

This week after completing a schedule of Sajid Khan's Housefull, Akshay Kumar sent Deepika Padukone packing and called producer-director Shabnam Kapoor to London to complete the long-pending Purab Ki Laila Paschim Ka Chaila, now called Helloo India.

Shabnam Kapoor flew to London and shot with Akshay Kumar for almost a week before he flew out to Italy for the next schedule of Housefull.

With the completion of Purab Ki Laila... which also stars Namrata Shirodkar and Suniel Shetty, Akshay prides himself on being the only leading man in Bollywood who has no films in the cans.

Interestingly this would be only the second film in Akshay's career directed by a female. Sangharsh directed by Tanuja Chandra was the first.

Films can't change society: Rahul Bose

Actor-social activist Rahul Bose feels that movies can't change society but can help make sensible people "more sensible".

"Films have a small impact on society - it can be negative or positive. But the impact is very little. But at the same time I feel movies can make sensible people more sensible and that sense of compassion will make you a better human being," said Rahul.

The actor, known for his powerful performances in English August and Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, was here for a campaign.

"I'm into activism because I just feel like it. I strongly feel it from my heart. In my opinion, if you feel like doing some change for your society, do it from your heart, not from your brain. For me, issues like gender equality, communal harmony, climate change and child rights are of utmost priority. In my case, activism comes very naturally," he said.

Do you think that an actor should be political?

"I think everybody should be political. Politics plays a major role in our lives. What you wear, where you go, whom you meet... all these are determined by certain politics."

Talking about the current situation of Bengali cinema, he said: "There are good commercial and art films from Bengal now. Filmmakers like Rituparna Ghosh, Gautam Ghosh, Aparna Sen and Buddhadev Dasgupta are coming with good films. Bengali art films like Kalpurush and Anuranan are getting critical acclaim."

The actor says he is open to act in any language movie.

"That is just a matter of good script. If good scripts, directors and film crew are there I am ready to act in any language films, whether it is Tamil or Italian."

Chennai pays tribute to Michael Jackson

No one knew, when the King of Pop signed on for a series of 50 trailblazing concerts "This is it!" starting with the 02 arena in London, that he'd pass away on June 25, leaving millions of fans distraught, and the world stunned into shocked horror.

With 13 Grammy Awards, 17 number one singles (including the four as a member of the Jackson 5), and estimated sales between 350 million and 750 million records internationally, Michael Jackson has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has multiple Guinness World Records including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time."

Forget his tumultuous private life, marriages, scandals, bizarre appearance and controversies surrounding his death -- he redefined western pop culture; an achievement equalled by no other.

So on August 29, Chennai decided to pay its own tribute to the Big Man of Pop Music through a magnificently drawn up concert, "Heal the World," under the aegis of the Rotary Club of Chennai Coastal in aid of a special cause as well: Autism Awareness and Treatment.

The venue chosen was the Wesley School Grounds, Royapettah, tried and tested for such events, held in the open air and capable of holding thousands of spectators.

Hanging out with Imran Khan

Daddy Cool is not cool at all

At least Daddy Cool announced that it was a copy of Frank Oz's Death At A Funeral, unlike most Hindi films who steal inspiration from Hollywood.

Unfortunately, the film is just not as cool as its title. Producers Ashok Thakeria and Inder Kumar bought the rights of the film and added two female parts to the original story -- Kim Sharma's [ Images ] and Sophie Choudry's characters.

Daddy Cool is about the death of Douglas Lazarus (Sharath Saxena). His sons Steven (Suniel Shetty [ Images ]) and Brian (Ashish Chowdhry) want to give him a good farewell, and invite friends and relatives.

But these friends and relatives have their own set of problems that they try to sort out during the funeral.

The entry of Andrew Symonds [ Images ] (Rajpal Yadav) changes everything for the family -- he was the late Douglas' gay partner. He now wants a share of Douglas's property to keep his mouth shut and not reveal his relationship with the deceased at the funeral. That's how the 'comedy' starts.

Last rites are taken rather seriously in our country, and so some of this comedy is not suited for Indian culture. Things like Prem Chopra shitting in Javed Jaffrey's [ Images ] hands does not qualify as funny. Or when Aftab Shivdasani [ Images ], dressed in boxer shorts, tells Tulip Joshi [ Images ] that they need to marry because Tulip is pregnant, and everyone listening to the exchange start clapping when they are done.

A scene from Daddy CoolSophie plays a model, who comes to the house to sleep with the man who is to give her an ad contract. Unfortunately, she has come to the wrong house, and since she has not seen the man in question before, mistakes Javed Jaffery for him. She then chases after him so that she can land the ad.

The film is set in Goa [ Images ] but only Javed and Vrajesh Hirjee speak Hindi the way Goans do. The rest speak in good Hindi with a splatter of English words.

The entire film takes place in one house, and the setting can get boring after a while.

Performances do not improve matters. Besides Javed and Aftab, the rest are pretty bad.

Music, however, is worth a listen.

Priyanka Chopra kyun roti hain?

The other two guests on the show -- Priyanka and Vijender -- too entertained with their antics.

The usually bubbly and vivacious actress broke down more than once on the show. She spoke at length about her journey from Barielly to Bollywood.

Both stars spoke about their upbringing and the stark contrast between both of them evoked many a gasp and a tear among the audiences that watched the show.

Why does Bipasha carry a hammer in her purse?

Farah Khan's new chat show on Star Plus is hotting up with Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra and Olympic boxing champion Vijender Singh joining the celebrity guest list.

The show will see stars donating items for an auction. Shilpa's donation were a torch that does not run on batteries and an autographed Rajasthan Royals ball while Bipasha's contribution was her favourite training shoes.

Bipasha revealed her safety secrets on the show. In her earlier days in Mumbai, the actress used to keep a hatoda (hammer) in her purse to protect herself from all danger.

"I used to carry a huge bag," she said. "In it was a pillow and a hammer. After late night rehearsals and fashion shows, I would tell the taxi driver to drop me at my paying guest accommodation at Bandra. I'm geographically challenged... I don't have a very good road sense so I'd get into the cab, take out my pillow and go to sleep. And thankfully, I never got a chance to use the hatoda."

To which Farah quips, "How sad. Achha agar hypothetically tumhe hathoda kissi pe maarna hota, to tum kahan pe maarti use?

Bipasha quickly retorts, "Upar aur neeche (and laughs)!"

'There won't be a sequel to OSO'

Choreographer-director Farah Khan is a dynamo. The mother of triplets juggles films, family, television shows and now a brand new chat show Tere Mere Beach Mein with aplomb.

How does she do all this? Well, fans got their chance to ask Farah herself on her movies, and her close star friends in the industry on Wednesday during a rediff chat. For those of you who missed the chat, here's what transpired:

Farah Khan says, Hi. This is Farah and I hope you have seen the first episode, with Salman and his mom!

riya asked, Ramdan App ko bhii mubarak HOooooo
Farah Khan answers, Ramdan Mubarak and Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.

anu asked, u must not have said those bad words about manoj kumar.
Farah Khan answers, Hey Anu, No of course I haven't said any bad words about Manoj Kumar. I really respect and love his movies, especially Clerk.

RahulK asked, Farah, please try to get Aamir and Shahrukh together for your talk show.
Farah Khan answers, Rahul, if I could get them for a chat show, why not for a movie? That'd be far more lucrative.

saan asked, when you make a film which look more a "cinema" than a unrealistic drama
Farah Khan answers, Saan, there are already lots of people making 'cinema' and losing lots of money. Can I please keep making money for the film industry? It really needs it.

Malik asked, Farah will like to see u making Sequel Of OSO .. can u do it again ?
Farah Khan answers, We had actually thought of a sequel. But sorry we won't be making it. It had Arjun Rampal's son coming to take revenge.

SAJID asked, WAT MADE YOU TO BECOME AN ANCHOR FOR THE SHOW ? WILL U INVITE UR HUBBY FOR THE SHOW?
Farah Khan answers, Sajid, I guess I got a lot of offers to host a show and this show really excited me, because it was my concept. And my hubby has really played very hard to get, to get on the show.

As good as Mrs Murugun's dosas, I say!

Director Shashanka Ghosh's Quick Gun Murugun takes every convention, cliche and character from popular cinema (and importantly, Tamil cinema) and turns them into delightful caricatures. And because our cinema has been inspired by so many different voices, QGM gets a rich palette to play with -- Spaghetti Westerns, Martial arts revenge flicks, Tarantino, Matrix, Terminator, Clint Eastwood [ Images ], Helen, Rajnikanth [ Images ], the moist-eyed 'Ma', the chilling bald-headed villain, talking portraits and college lovebirds played by uncles and aunties and more.

In its outrageous, comic-book treatment, QGM comes rather close to the comedy-action-crime film Kung Fu Hustle directed by Stephen Chow. In its flavour, it is as potent as desi chilli powder and chutney.

QGM is surprisingly violent. There is enough blood and gore with whizzing bullets and cracking whips to keep you at the edge of your seat. The action sequences (Sham Kaushal) are superbly executed, with the faceoff at the Coconut Tree Climbing Institute and the duel in a traffic jam being our favourite. The tender coconut bombs were a killer idea. Pun intended.

Murugun, the vegetarian Tamil cowboy, is Ghosh's tribute to the archetypal hero, who dominated popular imagination for decades. He was this larger-than-life, over-the-top, generous to a fault, protector of the poor, saviour of the ladies, faster the bullet, sucker for mother's cooking who cries at the drop of a hat (literally) with a bad dressing sense man, we canonised in our cinema.

But lest you go in expecting some bawdy humour and slapstick comedy, be warned. QMG is not your typical slide-splitting, laugh-a-minute fare. And it definitely does not expect you to 'leave your brains behind'. The laughs do happen but more often you are left smiling at the intelligent dialogues and their allusions to cultural idiosyncrasies, the parodies and the sarcasm.

"This is a private road", says QGM, when Mango Dolly tries to seduce him. "He has become thin as a chewed out drumstick," says Murugun's sister-in-law, who makes the 'best dosa-sambhar' in town. Hoping to convince Murugun to take up a decent job, his Locket Lover urges him to "Get a kerosene dealership." And after having taught a handicapped robber a suitable lesson, Murugun tells him, to "apply for a phone booth instead." And even Big B [ Images ] is not spared when Reddy suggests his team rope in Bachchan to endorse the terrible Mc Dosas, and mimics his somber style to the 't'. Ouch!

The art direction, styling, the construction of each frame has been handled deftly. Mango Dolly, the don's moll, wears a blonde wig and furry nighties around the villain and brown hair, pink satin petticoats with backless cholis around Murugun.

The villain, Rice Plate Reddy's weapon of mass destruction is Mc Dosa which boasts of a Ronald Mc Donald parody with decidedly Dravidian features. QGM actually cries into a glass of whisky while the villain wears gold underpants and red 'dollar' briefs with a secret 'money' pocket. QMG is lured into a "honeymoon soot" at a rundown hotel calling itself, Well-Known Lodge, which has pink heart shaped cushions and a creaking bed. And heaven's messenger drives a cart attached to a bike which 'moos' like a cow. Well, by the time the film gets over, you will have your own list of favourites.

Some of the goriest scenes in QGM are tempered with dark humour. When Rice Plate Reddy sounds the death knell for his aide Gun Powder, a near-blind octogenarian is summoned with a prehistoric typewriter to drum out his "resignation". Tension mounts, Gun Powder is inching towards his death, Rice Plate dictates the lines, relishing every innocuous word, giving it a sinister twist, to the unmistakable tune of Happy Birthday in the background. How this sequence ends is for you to find out.

Casting is near-perfect, with Dr Rajendra Prasad going about his business with all seriousness. His rosy cheeks, penciled moustaches and scarlet lips are as effective as his green, yellow and orange costume. But not for a moment do you doubt his sincerity as he delivers the funniest and corniest lines with the straightest face.

Nasser as Rice Plate Reddy is a treat to watch with his flashy rings, white and gold outfits and his favorite expression, "Tension, tension, tension da!" Watch out for his ear fuzz set against a shiny bald pate. Here's a potential comic book villain.

Mango Dolly, played by Rambha, is a buxom beauty (a la the Southern sirens) in a blond wig and blue eye-shadow (a la Helen). Her outfits we thought, went out with the Gemini Circus. But we were obviously wrong, we say!

What stands out in the film is the sound design and the music (Sagar Desai), which combine to make this spoof a full-blooded comic-action-crime thriller. The Carnatic flute version of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly signature tune was a treat.

From his two-minute life span on a music channel, Quick Gun Murugun has come a long way indeed and deserves this full length feature dedicated to our very own Indian Cowboy with a buckle to die for (Stylists, may I please have a replica of the same?!)

On the whole, QMG is as delicious as Mrs Murugun's dosas. As Rice Plate would have said, "A1, Tip Top!"

When SRK took a backseat to John, Abhishek

As Tarun Mansukhani is fine tuning the script for a sequel to his hit film Dostana, his main concern he says is to make a film that is in every way better than the original but will also work as a stand alone film. True, it will continue the story from the first movie, he says, but it should look very different from the first one.

Mansukhani, 33, who was in New York recently to attend the I View film festival organised by the advocacy group Engendered, confesses that he was not contemplating a sequel to the Abhishek Bachchan [ Images ] and John Abraham [ Images ] starring Dostana [ Images ].

"But within a month or two of the film's release Karan Johar [ Images ] (buddy and the film's producer), Abhishek and John kept asking me when we will start working on the sequel," he says with a chuckle. He had to put aside his plans for other projects including a story about the process of death, and a urban thriller aside and start working on the sequel.

Mansukhani speaks with rapid fire enthusiasm but he also weighs his thoughts well. Having worked as an assistant director on six films starring Shah Rukh Khan [ Images ], including Paheli [ Images ] which Shah Rukh produced, he could have started his first film with his favourite actor.

"But I believe that I should earn a Shah Rukh film," he says with a gentle laughter. "I don't think he would have said No had I approached him with a good script. But I felt that I admire him so much that I will first prove myself and may a year or two later, I will go to him with a fine script."

What could be the movie that he offers to Shah Rukh?

"Perhaps the film dealing with death..."

But hasn't Shah Rukh died in many films?

"Yes, but this film I want to make is more about how we look at the thought of dying," he says. "Considering that death is the only certain thing in anyone's life, I am baffled at people's fear about death."

Meanwhile, he thinks he would be ready to roll out the Dostana sequel early next year. It won't be set in Miami [ Images ], he says, adding that he is looking for yet another trendy city, not just in America but in Europe or South America.

What would be the title of the sequel.

"There are so many ideas ranging from Dostana 2 to Dostana Rebound but whatever we choose, the word Dostana will be there."
