Anurag Kashyap blames Big B for film delay…

Film-maker Anurag Kashyap has claimed that Amitabh Bachchan used his clout to delay the release of Chittagong to benefit Abhishek’s KHJJS so that KHJJS could get enough eyeballs. This had in turn stirred a controversy.

Shonali Bose’s small-budget film Chittagong that is based on the same subject and stars Manoj Bajpai as the revolutionary Surjya Sen, was meant to release in October, but it was delayed due to reasons unclear. But now, Anurag Kashyap, has thrown light on the reasons.

Kashyap has posted a comment on a social networking site, alleging that Big B is responsible for pushing the release of Shonali Bose’s Chittagong, which is being directed by her husband Bedabrata.

“See Chittagong, a far superior film made on the same subject as Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey… At 1/8 th the cost, far superior actors and immense passion… Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son’s career… welcome to Bollywood, where whose son you are outshines all the hard work and passion and potential and talent. KHJJS came and went, now what?”

There can be no doubt that the “someone” referred to in the post is Amitabh Bachchan.

Big B, it seems is quite irked as well. When asked if he had indeed made a call to stall the release of Chittagong, Bachchan said, “This is incorrect and baseless and I do not wish to dignify this undignified remark by commenting on it.”

Meanwhile, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is a flop.

Vidya and Big B to team up once again….

Vidya Balan and Amitabh Bachchan shared a terrific screen chemistry in the film ‘Paa’ where they played the role of a mother and son. And while that film went on to give ‘Auro’ his national award, the buzz is out that Vidya and Amitabh are teaming up again.

And yet again, they are not playing the romantic pair (which is surprising given that Amitabh has romanced younger lots like Tabu and Jiah Khan in ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Nishabd’ respectively).

Well! Renowned Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh is all geared up to bring on celluloid the tale of Kabulliwallah penned by the Noble Award winner Rabindranath Tagore. Amitabh shall play the protagonist Kabulliwallah who woos the young girl Mini with his baadam pistas and akhroths. Vidya shall play the grow-up avatar of Mini.

Vidya Balan is pretty gung ho about this project as Kabulliwallah is one of her fav stories. Vidya often wonders what may have happened to the character of Mini post her marriage. This is, surely, a touching, moving tale of an old man and an inquisitive girl and deserves a celluloid immortality by the likes of great actors like Amitabh.

Big B wins over Salman…

According to data provided by Audience Measurement and Analytics (aMap),
Amitabh Bachchan’s show Kaun Banega Crorepati has grabbed maximum TRP for any program on general entertainment channels. The fourth season of the show was launched on Monday and got 5 percent TRP,

Salman Khan’s show ‘Bigg Boss’, on the other hand got 3.4 percent TRP on Monday.

Reports also has it that other entertainment channels like Star Plus, Zee TV and Imagine TV that telecast fiction shows during the prime time slot, too failed to match KBC with average ratings of 3.2, 2.9 and 1.1 percent, respectively.

Big B rules the small screen as well.

Happy Birthday Amitabh Bachchan

October 11, Amitabh Bachchan, the emperor of the Bollywood silver screen, turns 68.

Yes, Big B turns another year young today. Inching towards his 70s, this man is as vibrant and feisty as a youth still giving the younger lots a run for their money.

He plans to spend the special day with his family at home. This day also marks his come back to the telly as a host of the most loved, most admired quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

Sony TV, the channel that will air the program has planned a bash for the superstar at JW Marriot hotel in Mumbai. Big B will go to the event, cut a birthday cake and be part of the celebrations.

The superstar has every reason to celebrate. He’s just won his fourth National Award for his stellar performance in the flick Paa.

As usual, a lot of fans are likely to gather outside the Bachchan residence to wish him happy birthday. Big B says he step out to meet his fans, as he does every year.

BigB, SRK and Hrithik set the runway ablaze

What more could have the audiences of Karan Johar and Varun Bahl’s fashion show at the HDIL- India Couture Week, wished, after seeing all the three Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham stars walking the ramp. Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan were the showstoppers for Karan and Varun’s fashion show on men’s wear on Thursday evening.

The terrific trio sashayed down the runway for Karan Johar and Varun Bahl’s show at the HDIL India Couture Week. Big B wore a black overcoat; SRK was clad in a nifty suit; Hrithik wore a somewhat zany coat with excessive buttonwork.

But what set the tempo for the show was when Shahrukh – always in the mood to have fun – prodded Big B and Hrithik to dance on the ramp. What followed left the crowd applauding with delight.

The reality show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ which will be is aired on Sony Entertainment channel on 11th otcober 2010, will have both Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan sharing the screen space for a special episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, where Amitabh Bachchan is the host.

Reason for SRK’s entry in season 4: A huge buzz and shoot up of TRP of the show as well as Sony channel.

The sources close to the show says, “The channel is very keen to have an episode that would have the two hosts of KBC face to face. The channel knows that this is what will give them a huge buzz. SRK is having good relations with the channel as well as the makers of the show, so it is hugely being anticipated that he might give a nod for this special episode. Everyone has their fingers crossed.”

Amitabh-Sridevi to make a powerful comeback…

They once ruled the celluloid and now they are once again set to scorch the silver screen. Well, if buzz is to be believed, Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi will once again share the sliver screen in Balki’s next, ‘Big B’.

Sridevi and Amitabh, together had given hits like ‘Inquilab’ and ‘Aakri Raasta’. They were last seen in ‘Khuda Kawa’ which was a super hit. After entering wed lock with producer Boney Kapoor, Sridevi quit films. Amitabh Bachchan has earlier worked with Balki in ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Paa’.

Salman replaces Big B in Big Boss new season!!!

Bollywood heartthrob, Salman Khan is all set to host the next season of the reality show Big Boss. The channel is sure that Sallu will keep the audiences hooked to its season four.

Buzz is that, both, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar were approached to host the show, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out in either case.

Now, there is going to be a fierce competition between the Bachchan and the Khan for TRPs, since Kaun Banega Crorepati will be aired on another channel in the same time slot as that of Big Boss.

Shrugging off the comparison, Salman says, “This is standard procedure that channels follow,’’. 
“I don’t really care about TRPs. I just like connecting with my audience, which is why I’m doing more of television.’’ The actor goes on to say that he’d love to do more television to reach out to his fans. “For me, television is a way of returning the love and affection that I have got from the audience for the past 22 years. Now they get to see me in the comfort of their homes, and that too for free,’’.

So will Salman follow the Bachchan’s style who played a friend, philosopher and guide to inmates of the house?

“He had his style and I have mine. Besides, Mr Bachchan is going to host another show in a different format. All these comparisons are nowhere in my mind.’’

Khan will be his brutally honest and spontaneous best on the show. He added in all seriousness,

“I’m very straight-forward and won’t tolerate hypocrisy or politics in the house. For those who play clean, I’ll be a friend. But those who don’t, can expect the worst,’’

And what happens to Dus Ka Dum, his television debut that is currently on a break?

“It all depends on the channel,’’ says Khan.

Mani Ratnam fights back Big B

Amitabh Bachchan’s cribbing about the poor editing of Mani Ratnam’s movie Raavan, on his blog, made actor Vikram and Cinematographer Santosh Sivan jump to Ratnam’s rescue by saying, it’s a director’s prerogative to decide how the characters should be depicted. Mani Ratnam who was calm till now, couldn’t stay the same any longer has spoken his mind to a Tamil weekly.

“That is his (Amitabh’s) opinion. I am not bothered about it. And I am not here in the industry to get marks from Amitabh Bachchan. We have made a film after two years of hard work. Anyone can comment on it,” Ratnam is quoted as saying by the weekly.

Big B had written “Lot of merited film edited out, causing inconsistent performance and narrative,”.

The superstar had later clarified that he has immense respect for Ratnam.

Abhishek all set to attend FIFA finale on July 11th

With the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, only three days away, football enthusiasts are gearing up to fly there to see the exciting matches and one of them is our very own Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek is planning to attend the finale on July 11th revealed papa Bachchan.

“There is keenness for a group that wishes to be there (World Cup) in the midst of it all to feel the punch of entertainment and game. My home enthusiasts … well just one … Mr. Abhishek Bachchan has expressed his absolute desire to be there for the final,” Amitabh posted on his blog.

The 2010 tournament is the 19th FIFA World Cup. The premier international football tournament is scheduled to start on June 11th 2010.

The legendary Amitabh Bachchan has been the face of a myriad of products and brands over the years, with the latest endorsement being for the state of Gujarat.

Speaking about his visit to Gujarat, on his blog, Bachchan says,

“It was still dark as we steadily made our way through barren roads. The police pilot GP flashing its orange rotator light ahead and behind, more security – we are just a ‘rann’ away from the Pak territory!! Moon was out shining at 6 in the morning and the entire region looked surreal. There is something uncanny about nothingness. That is what one felt as one strutted about on the salt laden muddy terrain, the wind so harsh even the vanity van shook and quivered.”

The shoot which was carried out approximately 60 kms away for the Indo-Pak border, which thankfully went off without much incident as the crew returned back the same evening.

Just for your records, Bachchan was also appointed as the brand ambassador for the state Gujarat few years ago.

BIG B In legal tangle

A woman village-head in Uttar Pradesh has sought a local court’s intervention to get a criminal case registered against Amitabh Bachchan in Barabanki district, where the megastar has bought land to build a women’s college.

The mega star had acquired five bighas of land Daulatpur village (UP), to build a college in the name of his star daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.

Raj Kumari, ‘gram pradhan’ (village head) of Daulatpur village,has accused Bachchan of “playing fraud” on the people of the village by not keeping his word of building a women’s college.
She has further charged Bachchan of threatening her with dire consequences when she approached him to honour his commitment to the local population.

Big B had purchased three bighas of private land. Together with his close friend, former Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, he travelled all the way to Daulatpur village in 2006 along with his wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya. And amidst much fanfare, he declared that the college would be named after Aishwarya. However, there was no such activity on the plot in all these years.

The court has fixed May 31 for hearing the case.

Sr Bachchan congratulates King Khan for his Twitter achievement!!

Bollywood’s legend Amitabh Bachchan, who joined Twitter a week back, congratulated actor Shah Rukh Khan for having as many as 400,000 followers on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Congrats!! You crossed 400,000… meri gaadi thoda dheeli chal rahi hai (I’m at a slower pace at the moment),” the 67-year-old posted on his Twitter page.

Amitabh, who has become twitter addict now, has 98,228 followers till date.

Sr Bachchan had a hectic day…

Known for his perfectionism in professional life, Amitabh Bachchan is quite similar in real-life too. Big B, had an eventful day since morning.

Despite having an appointment with the dentist, which really doesn’t leave anyone thinking about something else; he even went to the RTO office to renew his driving license.

“Driving straight to dentist for ‘root canal’ fix. If you see me tweet in anger you know why … PAIN!! Also, went to renew my driving license at RTO office.”

Juggling in pain was not enough that another thing which was a major concern to our
Sr. Bachchan was cars entering Mumbai on daily basis.

He tweets, “On my visit to RTO office, officer there told me 600 cars added every day in Mumbai… 600 every day!”

Bachanji surely did have a tough time. Hope he has a wonderful day ahead

Ash is better than Abhi, says Big B

Abhishek Bachchan has no doubt come a long way from where he started a decade back. Though he has managed to please the audience and critics in many of films over the years, his father still believes he can do better.

Apparently when Amitabh Bachchan saw the promo of Raavan for the first time, he quite liked it.

“My father patted on my back and said well done,” says a cheerful Abhsihek. “And then he turned back and said Aishwarya was better than I was!” he laughs out.

He added saying,

“She is one of the best actors we have in the film industry and her work for herself. I don’t compete with her or anybody else. I just compete with myself,”.

Don’t worry Abhi!!! A day is not very far when you would be at par with your wife.

Big B in pain- Too busy for surgery

Mega star Amitabh Bachchan is suffering from multiple hernias in his lower abdomen which has resulted in swelling of that area and is causing him imense pain whenever he exerts himself.

Doctors have advised him to undergo a surgery, but he has been avoiding it due to his busy schedule.

Amitabh has already undergone three surgeries ever since he met with anaccident on the sets of ‘Coolie’ in 1982.

“… A stomach surgery, indeed two in quick succession always have the possibility of hernia developing. And that is what is of concern now. There are now two urgent hernia in the lower abdomen which have swelled up dangerously and cause me problems,”
Big B revealed on his blog.

“Sharp pains when I stand for too long or walk too much. During dance and action scenes there is huge pain and I counter that with a hernia belt which is temporary and not really a cure.So the doctors have been after me for a surgery, well two actually on either side of the abdomen and I have been avoiding it because of my busy schedule. But I shall have to take care of it now,” he wrote.

Now there is a third hernia developing, he writes.

“And now after my third surgery of the stomach a few years back, when I was diagnosed for diverticulitis, there is another hernia that is developing. Of that later, say doctors. Because of the several times that the stomach has been opened up, there are lesions, and they at times stick and cause problems,” posted the 67-year-old who is also “asthmatic”.

Amitabh says he has been operated upon so many times that he has developed a slack shoulder muscle now — the reason why his left shoulder droops, believed to be a style. He has revealed that due to this his “left arm has become longer than the right”.

Big B joins the Bandwagon

When Beta Bachchan is doing his bit for the world, can Papa Bachchan be left behind? The megastar has joined the bandwagon to save the big cats. “Save the tiger” campaign, a joint initiative by Aircel and NDTV, will see Big B as its campaign ambassador. He expressed his concern over the dwindling number of tigers in his blog. With just 1411 tigers left, this surely calls for an action.

Other celebrity to be associated with saving our “national pride” is the Indian skipper M.S Dhoni. With two big names from the two passionate religions in India-Bollywood and cricket, we are sure about the campaign’s success.

Amitabh Bachchan now on Twitter

Big B reveals that his son Abhishek has been goading him for sometime to get on to the social networking site Twitter. A few days ago he got himself registered on the site.

“I have completed all the formalities (filled the e-form) and I am registered on Twitter now. But I am just there and I have not starting tweeting yet”.
